Gale has lived in Cabbagetown since 1988. A sociologist, and former biologist, her longtime research interests are on the relationship of society and technology. In 1996 she was a founding member and later director of the University of Toronto’s Knowledge Media Design Institute; a multidisciplinary graduate research and teaching centre.  Since retiring from the University of Toronto in 2011, Gale is enjoying life in Cabbagetown more fully and was pleased to join the CPA Board in 2014. Gale is a member of the Technology Committee, and a founding member of the Cabbagetown Talks Committee.
